Dowies also occur in Jamaica. How Dowies first came is not known; What they did,
whether they were Planters or more likely Scots servants to Scots planters, or colonial
officers is also not known.

However, there are Dowies in the Jamaican Old Parish Registers dating from 9/1/1734 when the death of Thomas Dowie, "A Free Negro man." is recorded, no parents names were given. ( 1 Port Royal Register, # 141 )

Later records record Dowies there as " Mullatta" and "Free Black".

A Thomas William Dowie was a Licensed Nautical Pilot for the Port of Kingston, Jamaica, between 1882 - 1908, from whom descendents now live in North America.
